Kids on the Block

The Kids on the Block is an internationally acclaimed puppet show. This program provides a wonderful opportunity to reach children in their earlier years and establish a climate of acceptance and understanding of epilepsy and of disabilities in general. Unfortunately, there are still many myths and misconceptions surrounding epilepsy that make it difficult for people who have this condition to lead normal lives.

The Kids on the Block program features a puppet character named "Brian McDaniel." Brian is a 12 year old that has epilepsy. Scripts with lively dialogue and situations involving Brian and his friends enable him to talk about his epilepsy.

At the end of the performance, the audience is invited to ask questions of the puppet characters. When children ask Brian, "What is it like to have epilepsy?" or "What do I do if you have a seizure?" Brian can replace myths and misconceptions with facts and sensitivity.

The program is appropriate for students in grades K-4 and requires a 30 minute block of time. A minimum space of 10 x 10 feet is needed for the stage set-up and we request no more than 50 children per performance.
